How to become a person that loves working out

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably noticed based on my stories that I’ve become obsessed with working out lately.

I’ve gotten a few questions about my workouts and if I attend some fancy gym. Nope, I just workout at my local YMCA. I thought it would be fun to share some tips that have helped me start to enjoy working out.

Experiment with different workout classes

When first getting back into the routine of working out I experimented with different classes to see which ones were my favorites. I’ve started to love Turbo Kick, Strength Training, Barre Fusion, Strong by Zumba and occasionally Spinning classes. I recently took a step aerobics and decided it wasn’t for me because I’m not the most coordinated person. So it’s essential to find classes that you love and will enjoy in the long run.

Find a workout buddy

Studies show that working out with a workout buddy improves weight loss results. About once a month, a few of my friends and I will get together and walk/jog Atlanta’s Beltline trail. Working out with a partner is not only fun but a great way to stay motivated. A British study also showed that walking outside with friends can improve heart rate and increase fat loss.

Get to know your instructor

Several of my former workout instructors are now some of my closest friends. Once you develop a routine and start going to classes regularly, you’ll begin to create a community of friends who frequent your gym. After class, is an excellent opportunity to get to know your instructor and ask any questions you may have.

Set a schedule that works for you

Find a schedule that works for you. I’m not a morning workout person and never will be. I enjoy going to the gym after work. But if mornings work best for your schedule look for classes that are before work.

Use a fitness tracker

Being able to track your calories and progress is very motivating. I am currently on Weight Watchers and have been on the program for years. Being able to sync my Apple Watch with the Weight Watchers app, keeps me motivated toward reaching my goals.
