Around Atlanta: Checking into the Burgess Hotel
If I could design a hotel and restaurant menu to match my personality and sense style, it would look just like Atlanta’s newest luxury boutique hotel, The Burgess. The Burgess, formerly a Wingate by Wyndham, is tucked away in the Buckhead area of Atlanta off Piedmont Road. I recently stopped by the new hotel to tour the property and try FIA’s menu.
The longtime owners of the property envisioned three years ago that they wanted to create a lasting impression and tell a larger story through the interior design of the hotel. So, the couple invested in a million-dollar renovation and hired a Dallas based interior design firm to bring their vision to life. Each room in the hotel tells a unique story inspired by their global heritage and travels. When visiting the property, you’ll spot family memorabilia and art designed by their daughter all along the walls.
Upon arrival, I was greeted by friendly staff members and given a tour around the property before heading to the restaurant. My eyes immediately gravitated toward the beautifully designed mid-century modern library on the first floor painted in navy blue and with bright accent colors throughout. I could stay in here all day reading one of the blue books on the shelf.
Next to the library sits the new bar, Mr. B’s, named after the owner’s father, who was one of the first people to climb Mount Everest in an Indian expedition. The bar is decorated with photos from his expedition. Guests of the hotel and locals can come to enjoy a customized cocktail at the bar.
If you are looking to host a meeting at the hotel you are in luck, the property has two conference spaces on the first floor.
Also, on the first floor sits the hotel’s Mediterranean inspired restaurant FIA. The woodfire grill restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The seasonal menu features farm to table ingredients from regional suppliers in the area. At lunch, try the braised pork belly over slow-cooked grits, the warm hummus, the salmon with a sweet potato puree, the truffle potato gnocchi, and branzino. Everything on the menu I tried was delicious and I definitely have a new local neighborhood favorite that I’ll frequent often.
After dining at the restaurant, I headed upstairs to tour the guest rooms and suites. Like the rest of the property, each guest room design is inspired by a favorite travel destination of the owners
