Why I'm giving up Instagram for Lent!

Yep. You read that headline right! I’m giving up Instagram for 40 days and 40 nights, starting today for Lent. Lent is a season of prayer, fasting, sacrifice practiced in the Christian faith leading up to Easter. Giving up Instagram for Lent is something that’s been weighing on my heart for a while now. I don’t get the joy out of using the platform as I did years ago.

And to be honest, it’s a time suck. I’ll spend hours scrolling through Instagram and things that were on my to-do list to cross off just aren’t getting done.

I’ve also noticed that being on social media has decreased my vocabulary and how I communicate.

I can’t focus on what God has called for me in this season I’m in right now. It’s not easy to put down the phone and delete the Instagram app. Especially since social media is apart of my profession. I’ll still be posting on behalf of my clients. I’ll remove my personal accounts from my phone. So this will truly be a challenge for me and I can’t believe I’m writing this post.

How to keep up with me during my time away from Instagram

I’ll still publish new content here on the blog several times throughout the week. So make sure you are subscribed to my newsletter. Also, make sure you follow me on Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest because I’ll still publish content there. I won’t be deleting my Instagram account, so you can still follow me at @HelloitsJewel. I do have a few brand campaigns lined up during this season, so if the campaign requires me to publish to Instagram, I’ll still publish the content there through the Facebook Business Manager app.
