I tried eyebrow lamination: An honest review

I’ve been getting my eyebrows threaded since I was in middle school. I’ve always managed to have perfectly shaped eyebrows that fit the shape of my face. They weren’t too thin or too thick. With bushier and thicker eyebrows coming back in style, I had a recent desire to grow mine out. When I saw fellow Atlanta blogger, Poor Little It Girl document her experience trying the new Laminated Eyebrow trend on Instagram Stories, I decided to try it out for myself. Full, feathery eyebrows, why not let’s give it a try.

What is eyebrow lamination?

Eyebrow lamination also called a brow sculpt or brow lift is the new beauty trend that took off mid-last year on Tik Tok and Instagram. Think of it as a perm for your eyebrows that focuses on creating shiny, smooth, fluffy eyebrows. Eyebrow lamination is a semi-permanent procedure that can last up to six to eight weeks.

It’s been four weeks since I got my eyebrows laminated by Claudia from the Art of Face but I wanted to give you a sneak peek at my experience.

Here’s a snapshot of what I looked like before and after.

How long does the eyebrow lamination process take?

If it’s your first time, the process can take anywhere between 45 to 60 minutes depending on your hair type.

Can you walk me through the process from the moment you sit in the chair?

Sure.

  1. If you are getting your eyebrows threaded, the technician will start by shaping your eyebrows to a desired shape. If you are getting them waxed they will do this at the very end.

  2. After they’ve shaped your eyebrows, they’ll add the chemical solution that straightens your eyebrows. That solution will sit on your brows for 10 to 20 minutes. Your eyebrows are then brushed upwards.

  3. Then the technician removes the straightening solutions and adds a nuetralizer. She then places a saran wrap like film over your eyebrows to hold them in place and prevent any chemical from getting in your eyes. Just like if you were going to the salon to get a perm on your hair.

  4. I opted to have my eyebrows tinted as well. After she finished steps 1-3 she began the tinting process to darken my brows. She applied the tint and let it sit for about 10 minutes. After removing the tint she did any final grooming on my brows and applied the moisturizing cream.

What’s the upkeep process like afterwards?

After you get your eyebrows laminated you aren’t allowed to shower or get your face wet for 24 hours. This was the hardest thing for me. I showered right before my appointment so the process of waiting so long wouldn’t bother me and I sponged off the next morning.

It’s recommended that you apply a nourishing oil with brow applicator to keep your eyebrows from drying out.

You should also wait 7 to 14 days before getting a facial.

How much did it cost?

It was $85 for the lamination, threading, and tint.

What’s the risk in the process?

The risk in the process is fairly low but remember everyone responds to these treatments differently. Also it’s important to do your own research. I looked up Claudia’s instagram account and followed her for a while before booking my appointment to see what the experience looked like for other clients. Finding an experienced technician is key and asking a ton of questions during the appointment is also important.

My overall thoughts

I love the way my eyebrows turned out. I love being able to put on as minimal makeup as possible. Will this be a regular thing? I’m still on the fence about that. I want to try the lamination process another time to be sure if this is something I’ll continue every 6 to 8 weeks.
