Today is national puppy day which is the perfect time to introduce you all to my new puppy Pebbles. She is a 9-week old  Havacao (Havanese Cocker Spaniel Mix). Her birthday is MLK Day. She came home with me this weekend. We have been bonding and getting to know each other.

Having a puppy is no joke and let’s just say I’ve got my hands full. Her bubbly personality and high energy keeps me on my toes. Having a puppy is just like having a newborn baby.

We are both averaging about 5-6 hours of sleep each day. So we are both very tired.

I’ve spent the past few weeks researching puppy training to prepare for her arrival. But every day I learn something new. I had a dog growing up for 11 years of my life up until he passed away right before I went to college. We got him when he was a puppy so she was like a sibling to me.

But since it’s been forever since I’ve had to train a puppy I needed a refresher. My boyfriend’s dog Boots was living with me for the past six months but she’s seven years old and potty trained. So it’s different.

This time around I wanted to be very prepared. I went on Chewy.com and purchased a ton of pet products. I’ve spent weeks searching through the aisles of Marshalls and TJmaxx for everything I could find.

Here are a few things I’ve purchased that have been lifesavers.

Snuggle Puppy-This little stuffed animal has been so helpful for ensuring we have a quiet night’s sleep. It’s a great companion for crate training and eases anxiety for the pup. The stuffed animal comes with a heating pack and a sensory-operated heartbeat.

Kong Toys-Pebbles is already starting to chew on everything in sight. These toys are great for soothing teething puppy’s mouths. You can fill them with peanut butter and place them in the refrigerator to cool them off.

Baby Gate- Pebbles loves to follow me everywhere and there are certain areas in my condo that are off-limits so I had to get these wide-gates from Chewy.com for my kitchen.

Raised food and water bowls- Pebbles is half cocker spaniel and her ears are expected to get longer. To avoid ear infections I brought these bowls off Amazon.

Crate- I’m really big on aesthetics and I didn’t want a crate that would stand out in my home. I brought this furniture-style crate from Chewy.com that blends in with my bedroom decor. She’s adjusted to it pretty easily.

What are some training techniques you’ve found useful for your puppy or dog?
