Budget-friendly refrigerator organization hacks

In this pandemic era, we are spending more time inside the house and in the kitchen cooking than before. If you are like me, you’ve found new projects to do around the house that were long overdue. Historically, I’ve never been a neat and organized person, but quarantine is turning me into a new gal. I’ve found myself now obsessed with decluttering and organizing every inch of my home.

A few weeks ago, I took it upon myself to empty my entire refrigerator and deep clean it from top to bottom. I usually deep clean and organize my fridge at least twice a year, but this new normal has me itching to do it more regularly.

I'm on a tight budget. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on kitchen organization products, so I used everyday household items from the Dollar Tree to organize my refrigerator. In today’s blog post, I’m sharing simple everyday items you can use to organize your fridge and keep your food fresh.

Use the jar method to make your fresh fruit last longer

Ever wonder how to keep your fruit lasting longer? My friend Simply Sheena Marie shared the jar method hack with me a couple of years ago and I was skeptical that it actually worked. But when I tried it a few weeks to keep my blueberries, strawberries, cherries, and salad greens fresh, I was surprised to find that this method actually worked. The jar method works by placing your washed fruit into a large mason jar and sealing with a plastic lid. My fruit stayed fresh for two weeks!

Store salad greens in a clear tupperware container with a paper towel

Hate buying salad mix to find it spoiled a few days later? Remove the greens out of it’s packaging and add it to a glass or plastic tupperware with a paper towel. The paper towel absorbs the moisture and the clear containers are aesthetically pleasing.

Categorize your refrigerator into sections

Hate the feeling of looking into your refrigerator and you can’t find something you just purchased? A simple of solution is to organize your refrigerator into sections. Place meats at the bottom of the refrigerator, add beverages in all one section at the top of the fridge, keep your eggs in the middle section, place deli meats and cheese in the top pull out drawer, condiments can stay on the drawer.

Add liners to your produce drawer

A few months ago I purchased produce liners on sale at Aldi. These have been a lifesaver for keeping the produce bins neat and clean. These liners make clean-up a breeze and extend the life of your produce by helping air circulate properly in the bins.

Use bowls and trays to ease the amount of clutter

To help eliminate clutter, I used bowls to keep items together. For example, I added my citrus and apples to bowls and placed them in my refrigerator. Tip: If you keep your citrus in the fridge it will last longer. You can also use bowls to keep your eggs together. I also used trays that I found at the Dollar Tree to store larger condiments like hummus and salsa.
